Course Description: Introduction to Psychology is designed to introduce students to several topics in psychology. Students will study the foundations and approaches to psychology, sensation and perception, personality, principles of learning, and psychological disorders and treatment.
Materials: Bring the following to class each day:
Expectations: I expect you to show me that you are a mature human being while in my classroom. This includes treating other people and their things with respect. Please come prepared and listen to directions the first time. You are encouraged to bring your own device, however, it is ONLY to be used for curriculum purposes. It is NOT ok to text, snapchat, instagram, take selfies, etc. during class. Additionally, please respect the privacy of your classmates and teacher by NOT taking video or pictures without their permission. Your device should enhance your learning rather than distracting from it. This means that your device should be put away unless it's appropriate to have it out (and I will let you know when it is appropriate). Ear buds should NOT be worn in class. The first time you are using your electronics in an inappropriate manner, you will be asked to put it away, the second time it will sit on my desk the remainder of the hour. Repeat offenders will receive further consequences.
Discipline: Discipline is an opportunity for us to shape your behaviors into more positive and pro-social ones. Should situations arise, these consequences could result (not necessarily in this order or limited to these 5):
Absences: If you are absent it is your responsibility to get what you missed from Mrs. Schlicht's website If you have questions about what you missed, please come in before school.
Grading: Assignments and tests will be a running total of cumulative points. You will take a cumulative semester final exam that will be worth approximately 10% of your semester grade.
A 100-90
B 89-80
C 79-70
D 69-60
F 59-0
Homework: You will be graded on class work, writing assignments, projects, exams, etc. Missed tests must be made up within a reasonable amount of time (1-3 days). A missed test should be made up the day you return. Late work will be accepted until we test over the content, but you must serve a 20 minute detention before the grade will be entered. You will NOT receive a grade penalty. Additionally, you will not be allowed to turn in missing assignments AFTER we test on those items.
Hall Passes: Passes out of class will be limited. Please use the restroom and run your errands during passing period. In order to leave the room, you MUST have your student agenda. Hall passes are issued at the teacher’s discretion.
BYOD Policy: The Olathe School District allows each student to bring an electronic device of his or her choice for use in the classroom. You will be encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity in this classroom. This is an outstanding way to enhance your learning, please do not abuse it by being off task. It is your responsibility to keep your device safe. Don’t leave it unattended!
